About
The Ignatian Exercises were designed by St Ignatius of Loyola in the 1500s. Igantius originally intended the exercises to be walked out in an intensive month, closely accompanied by a spiritual director. His 19th Annotation to the Exercises cast a vision for how they could be done in daily life, but still with the close guidance of a spiritual director trained in the Exercises. They are brilliant and complex in their psycho-spiritual logic and far ahead of their time when understood through the lens of attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology. This course is for seasoned spiritual directors seeking advanced training, not simply accompanying people through, but discerning invitations based on thoughtful and perceptive observations of the directee. We will attend to questions of cultural, neurological, and other kinds of diversity, as well as consider other contexts where the Exercises might be used with thoughtfulness and care.
